Chile House, Speicherstadt Museum and the trip home

We check out of our hotel this morning and had breakfast locally.

It was a wet morning and we had a rather wet walk to the Chile House and then tried to find the Speicherstadt Museum in the docks area of Hamburg
The museum had moved so got rather wet finding it  but it was well worth the search as it gave a fascinating insight into the history of the docks and warehouses in that area of Hamburg.

We had a nice lunch at Vietnamese restaurant near the hotel again and made out way to the airport.

The flight slightly delayed from Hamburg but Gordon still got back in time for the Opera he had booked and I got back in time for Choir rehearsal!

A good holiday and well worth the early start on the Friday to get the maximum time visiting Hamburg and experiencing its life and culture.

Today was pretty wet so we had a really interesting few hours in the Kunsthalle art museum.

For lunch we at Wurst at Hauptbanhof and then visited the Museum of Hamburg History

We had some drinks later at a bar on the Reeperbahn, ate dinner Dinner at Hofbrauhaus and then had a few more drinks on Reperbahn.  It was a pretty wet day.

Rathaus, churches and Reeperbahn

We had a nice long lie-in this morning and then had a lovely lunch at a Vietnamese Restaurant very close to our hotel. We followed it with some nice Coffee and cake.

Wandered to the Opera House to get some tickets for an evening performance but sadly there were only really expensive ones left so we decided not to buy them. We went back to Jungfernstieg and got a steam boat on the alster.

Next we visited St. Peter’s Church and then did the Rathaus tour (which was fascinating).

We decided to walk over to the Reeperbahn and stopped at the remains of St Nikolai Church. It was largely destroyed in World War II although it is possible to get a lift up most of the tower and get some good views across Hamburg.

We visited St Michaelis Church also Bismarck memorial.

We walked down to the Reeperbahn (reputedly one of the biggest red light districts in Europe! It was Harley day in Hamburg so the street was lined with hairy bikers and motocyclists cruising up and down the street on their very big and very noisy bikes!

We went back to hotel for a rest then had Dinner in St Georg, at an Italian restaurant called Casa Nostra.

A drink at the MV bar rounded the evening off nicely.
